  10. #2 is required for this game.  Also,
  11. once you begin the game, the only way
  12. to exit is to press RUN/STOP RESTORE.
  13. To get back to LOADSTAR, LOAD"HELLO
  14. CONNECT",8 and press RETURN.

  17.     Ducks dive from fog. If they
  18. don't hit a lily pad, they die.  If
  19. they do, they become adult ducks and
  20. fly away. You have a boat with a net
  21. made of lily pad stuff so you can help
  22. them become adults by making sure that
  23. they hit the net before the water.
  24.  
  25.     If you ignore such serious
  26. ethical considerations as licensing,
  27. ecological damage caused by motor
  28. boats, and payoffs to the Sierra
  29. Club, you can have a great time at
  30. the lake. If only your boat were
  31. easier to control....
  32.  
  33.     You have a 10-foot fiber-glass
  34. SpeedSport Trawler with a 500 hp
  35. Evinrude Destroyer outboard, so you
  36. have all the power you need.
  37.  
  38.     Unfortunately, all you have to
  39. steer with is a joystick. If you
  40. push the stick to the right, your
  41. craft heads to the right, but in
  42. order to move you must push the stick
  43. forward. To go left, push the stick
  44. to the left and then forward to move.
  45. To move backward, pull the stick
  46. back. To extend your lily pad net,
  47. push the fire button and the net jumps
  48. out of the front of your boat, or as
  49. some people say, the bow.
  50.  
  51.     If you catch the careening duck
  52. with your net, he will quickly mature
  53. and fly off, fodder for the hunters a
  54. lake or two away. If you miss, the
  55. duck will splash into the water and
  56. become fish food. Such is the luck of
  57. a duck.
  58.  
  59.     Each night there are fifty ducks
  60. in the fog. You can activate the
  61. net-extender sixty times a night so
  62. theoretically you can 'save' all
  63. fifty ducks. The number of ducks you
  64. save is shown at the top of the
  65. screen, along with the number that
  66. have kamikazed and the number of
  67. times you have used your net-
  68. extender. You can move onto the next
  69. night anytime you want by pressing any
  70. FUNCTION key. You can also pause the
  71. action by pressing the SHIFT or
  72. SHIFT-LOCK keys.

  74.     The only way to call off the duck
  75. debacle is to press the RUN/STOP
  76. RESTORE combination. If you want to
  77. return to Lake Drake, enter SYS49152
  78. and press RETURN. To return to
  79. LOADSTAR, enter LOAD"HELLO CONNECT",8
  80. and then RUN.

  91. was one of the names I recall from
  92. dozens of programs in Ahoy, Commodore,
  93. and other paper magazines. The editors
  94. of these magazines had to remember the
  95. sorely mistreated fingers of their
  96. readership. Buck usually met the
  97. challenge of simple programming with a
  98. lot of panache.
